"Kenny Millions the renowned saxophonist and guitarist once vaunted in avant-garde circles of Europe, America and Asia, fell victim to the reptilian maw of U.S. industrial ferro-culture sometime around 1980. Most souls who fall prey to this monstrous omnivorous predator do not survive in any recognizable living form. If the poor victim does somehow survive the encounter, all that is usually left is an empty inexpressive husk - like a zombie, yet lacking any distinguishing character from that of the ordinary accountant.
In Millions' case, however, some sort of bizarre entity did survive, displaying many of the grotesque attributes of the monstrosity that ate him; industrial instruments of mob torture and entertainment, illiteracy, intolerance, insane articulations often about copulation and feces, and outsized pornographic displays. In perfect response to his environment, Millions gives to the audience all the substitutes that they rejected him for. Having refused all subtleties, all nuance, all intelligence, Millions offers noise for music, insults for respect, goggles for a face, a deflating rubber sex doll for love and pornography for art. It is, of course, all theater, and it’s perfect. The audience loves it; it is Loved by Millions. That any remnant of Maslak remains is a shock. Indeed, just recently his name was mentioned in polite society and a stunned diner asked "Is he still alive?" Steve Malagodi - WLRN Radio
