Deepavali

from SADHU by Raising Holy Sparks

/

about

This album was inspired by several visits to the Sri Veeramakaliamman temple in Singapore. Travelling through Southeast Asia & Australia in 2008, I found myself back in that city-state many times, it being a hub for travellers in the region. I would visit Little India, particularly the temple to Kali. Deepavali, the Festival of Lights was in progress & I was fortunate enough to witness some lively ceremonies there. Enda, drummer & mridangam player, brought something of his travels & studies in India to many of these pieces & I hope that something of the calmness & the chaos we both witnessed shines through. Special thanks to Ulrich for bringing his own magical sound too...
